_____________American Ballads and Folk Songs
From A. A., Auburn, New York:
"There used to be a company that ran a chain of barns on the line of the canal and furnished boatmen for towing boats. At Weedsport, the line barn was taken care of by Ezekiel Radford, who made and sold horse liniment.
"There was a song about Zeke and his liniment that I would like to see in print if any of your readers know it. It started like this:
"Ezekiel he came out And began to bawl and shout,
Saying: 'Captain, are your horses galded any? I've a liniment here to sell That will cure them right up well}
I don't think that I have ever sold you any.'
"Following is the song previously asked for."
A TRIP ON THE ERIE
•You may talk about pleasures
And trips on the lakej But a trip on the Erie,
You bet, takes the cake. With the beefsteak as tough
As a fighting dog's neck And the flies playing tag
With the cook on the deck.
The cook, she's a daisy j
She's dead gone on me. She has fiery red hairj
And she's sweet twenty-three. She's cross-eyed and freckled j
She's a darling and a pet. And we use her for a headlight
At night on the deck.
